This thing you think funny, where it will land? It hits a spot deep down inside I feel myself recoil, wanting to hide If I tell you my story will you then comprehend? Or will what is between us lie cold on the floor my friend? Too deep, too much, I hear you say Well, that no longer touches me, no longer holds any sway For all my life I have made myself small Bent and shrunk my shape instead of standing tall So serious, you say, lighten up Take a chill pill, relax Buttercup Yours is the drum beat of a familiar song One where the other tries to make me wrong Wrong for standing up for what I believe Yet in my heart I grieve For do you not see when you make fun of another It is not comical, it is denigration of your sister or brother This time it was female anatomy Inviting shame not flattery Others have found it funny you say That may be, but perhaps they are misguided in the same way? The young girl that I was, was warned of this crap Mother told me, “beware, men want nothing but sex, it’s a trap” That young girl was fed a lie in a way But the young boy that was you also fell prey You were taught to belittle and laugh at another To joke about that which would otherwise flourish and flower Stuck in old patterns we grew up to the beat of the same drum But let’s set aside what was taught by uncle, dad or mum We can be different and break the chain Not be the one that keeps on dealing out endless pain Revise what is funny, if it comes at the expense of another It hurts us all, sister and brother Compassion is where it truly is at Anything else will simply fall flat Well... that is my truth, I have no real wish to make you wrong For in my having a go we are singing the same song I have to laugh at myself ranting and raving Indignation at being made to feel wrong created a craving I only wish for you to understand Where what you found funny would actually land You are me and I am you Reflections of the other in some insane human brew Perhaps it is time to take another peep At something in which I’d rather steep “Each to their own” I hear myself say Let’s find some fun in something we both see as play For when I allow myself to let go and laugh Especially at myself on this crazy path I find we are more alike than I’d often own But when I do, my heart feels like it has come home If you enjoyed reading this, you may enjoy some of my other poems, or articles like How Do I Honour What I Believe and Care Less What You Think?, How to Receive and Be More Confident in Your Needs, Desires and Opinions, Embrace Your Authentic Self, Shed the Toxic People in Your Life and How Living Your Passions Fully Combats Feeling Lonely. What a crazy world I’ve lived in this week
LIfe full of that word virus yet it’s peace I seek I don’t feel fear, not yet at least More dismay at people preparing for famine than feast Taking sensible steps is a chore in my head Aspects of daily life getting harder is a thing one can dread So each day I take the time To seek that inner peace of mine To gain some perspective on the conversations I hear To choose rational thought and reclaim my inner peace over fear It is not always easy I will admit When I have an inbox full of things talking about it I turn to my partner, my friends, my kids Too much virus stuff, it gives me the skids Yet the nuggets of gold are not hard to find Mother Earth has taken a big out breath in areas human activity has declined Life could actually slow down in a way To help us contemplate the next positive play The years after this virus hit Will we make positive changes because of it? Will governments learn from this hullabaloo? Who knows, but will you? If you enjoyed reading this, you may enjoy in Base Your Actions on Love Not Fear, What Is the Deal with Conspiracies? Life was designed to be perfect
As were you and I Yet, far too often ‘less than’ is the now prevalent cry Really? Are you able to see what is all around? In nature energy and answers always abound Are we so cut off from our world we can’t see what really is? Instead we live our lives in some kind of indoctrinated fizz We took what was perfect and carved it to our demands Yet have created nothing as perfect or sustainable As already exists in our heart and our lands In fact we took our world and carved it in such a way As to make ourselves nothing but slaves both night and day When I am sick or sad or mad, it’s a gift for me to see What my inner world has been trying hard to tell me Help is always near in the natural world that we live Take a walk, feel the truth of all that actually is Switch off your device Stop listening to that clown The fizz is stifling; it keeps your thoughts spinning round Round the same old circuits, believing you are less Believing in what? The answer is anyone’s guess Whatever it is Is usually designed to keep you down Believing you are not enough Intended to wipe the smile, perpetuate a frown Do you know why you’re here? Do you know how perfect you are? Do you know that in all those questions you can ask The answer is never far Yet most live their lives The questions, even if asked Left unanswered as they hide behind the mask Go take time in nature Reach within and you shall see The answers are already there They exist within me I’d love for you to like, comment on, or share these thoughts with others if they inspire, or contact me directly at shona@shonakeachie.com, I’m always happy to help if I can. Before there was life There was you You are the basis of creation You are that which we are Without you, there would be no more life… You have existed here for billions of years Flowing through the air, through the earth, through the seas Through each cell of our bodies, through plants and trees You have touched our past and rain it upon our present The miracle of existence evident in your presence There is nowhere you have not been In this physical world, a life unseen Always changing, always expressing in endless ways From the dark depths of the sea to an early summer’s haze Frozen in time, with a crystalline form Running free in a river, or in the cells of a worm Eons spent in an ocean under the moon Caressing turtles as they shelter in the lagoon Entering in, flowing through, staying a while, creating the new The ocean with its gentle waves Or thundering industry on more blustery days All of it you, in your many guises Experiencing a life so full of surprises You do not discern between bad and good You give and take life in servitude The moon moves you forward and back Heat and cold changing you from excess to lack The winds move you through the night As vapor, or perhaps a cloud taking flight You surely must delight in each form that you take So many each day, with never a break You dance freely through this life never ending In awe I can sense my mind bending In your very existence you are showing There is no death, just more life unfolding This is true of us all I have no doubt We simply change form on the roundabout So versatile, so necessary to all that we are From whence you came, maybe a star Or in the mind’s eye of just the one creator It does not matter how you birthed Just that you gave life to this Earth Thank you, water Knowing I’ve helped in some way through my writing means a lot - I’d love for you to like, comment on, or share these thoughts with others, or contact me directly at shona@shonakeachie.com, I’m always happy to help if I can. Regardless whether you believe in more or not
There is consensus in life joy is sought ‘Tis always there, though not always sensed In our hearts, too often fenced Shrouded in details that life has brought Leaving us – well - overwrought In later life all becomes clear A sensing of an ending near Time worrying is wasted indeed Let not regrets take seed Instead look into your heart And you will see, as from the start Your capacity for joy remains with you still And in each moment take your fill This one is dedicated to my gran, Joy, who took hers in spending the latter part of her life dancing to the beat of her own drum, silently teaching us the power of focusing only on the things you want in life and ignoring the rest. Those who feel offended
Realise it’s not intended So let us begin to frame… the answer, that will become clear To those that are looking for it here God has become a word For a concept that’s absurd That there is separation between Thee and Me The idea that we are not connected Is being outright rejected If you take a closer look You’ll see that no one got forsook Imagine we are all here Each and every one held dear All part of one Each thing, bar none Like a wave, part of the sea That is a good analogy The wave comes Then it is gone But the sea rolls on “I can’t be connected to that person over there You don’t know me, how do you dare?” Take a closer look and see It’s just another wave, part of the sea “If I’m connected why do I feel so alone?” Cause it’s what you get taught, in society if not at home The tap turned off, you are stuck in your mind Every thought within You will find Was planted there in your early years By people who held only fears Fear of you getting hurt Not fitting in or coming unstuck They meant well, instead sent you to hell Turned off from your inner knowing Frustration all the while growing What about that guy? He’s a nut Not as a newborn, he was love His acts towards others are a cry from the dirt It’s easy to judge others when you’re not in their shoes If you knew their story, it would give you the blues Doesn’t mean you would go the same way You’re a different expression, moulded from the same clay When you feel good, you are open wide People smile back You get a bounce in your stride When you’re in that place And you allow in Grace You feel love for everyone in this place “What does all this have to do with God?” You are it, and you ain’t no fraud Everything is just one thing Ding-a-ling Call it what you like, infinite intelligence, God, source, or just energy It’s all that is everything, from land to the sea From the cosmos to you and me So if we are all one, what is the point? To have some fun while you’re kicking around this joint If you make it your mission to feel good Things will start to flow to you Just like they should Be as one and you will see Nothing works for or against you Like your energy Get in flow and you will know You are it So what are you waiting for? Here is my experience as I sat on the beach, hot on the heels of writing How Do You Want to Feel Today, summed up in a poem:
Grace, a word for which I’ve had no use One I associated with religion’s noose Yet yesterday as a man said to me “What does the rest of the day hold for thee?” I pondered a moment and looked outside There I saw some bright blue skies "To the beach I will go and walk in the sand" Nature’s way of taking my hand As I walked and felt the sun’s heat Through the cold nip of the air and the waves biting at my feet There was a feeling that swelled inside One that came quicker than the rhythm of the tide A growing sense of anticipation Arising from the emancipation The freeing of the real me inside Allowing it to take the lead with pride Forsaking all that I had known In the world of thoughts and form Two little dogs ran round and around I giggled with glee as their owner frowned That feeling of freedom, of joie de vivre Of letting it go, restraint taking its leave I looked at the sky Where two seagulls flew Like joggers together, basking anew In the company of another who enjoys the same In like minds they flew, enjoying their game Small white clouds gathered in the distance As I looked I thought in that instant "Go ahead, take this moment of grace" Here, now, in this beautiful place I giggled again, the sun to my face At the irony of hearing such a word as ‘grace’ Yet all the while knowing The truth of it showing The feeling inside From which I cannot hide All these things that I see Are connected to me The good and the bad The happy, the sad All together in this world of ours As loved as if we are delicate flowers Now I sit and reflect at that moment on the beach The voice still within me, the feelings within reach Take this moment of grace Regardless of what place If all around there is concrete and sound Just a window you need find If not imagine it in your mind Look up at the sky, at the clouds at the snow Whatever surrounds you, just know You need not believe in any one thing Except the beauty of you and the joy that you bring For grace abounds and can always be found In each and every little thing around The secret to finding it, is letting unwind Those stories about yourself, locked in your mind The ones about you that began from birth Your very arrival upon this earth The well meaning guidance you received From those around you that believed They knew best, how to help you along Rather than trusting intuition’s song Yet you can find your own truth If only you will let loose The thoughts, the beliefs that are holding you back The person that you were born to be, a little off track Know that you will always be A person that is worthy of being the real me Let the sun shine upon your face Take in this moment, take your grace If we’re not already connected, just fill in your name and email at the top of the blog page to subscribe to my newsletter. And in the arms of well meaning people we grow Even without ill intent or deceit It is as strangers our adult we meet For in their well meaning Our family and friends Push more and more upon us It has no end And so as adults we ask Who am I, this mask? Under it is the person I should ask For I came into this world with an intention I know If I follow my bliss I will see it grow Seek only to feel good In every event And in it You will see your life of intent As you become more of who you were born to be You will look back on those earlier times and see That each were doing the best they could From that limited place that we all have stood Wrapped in so many layers of doubt Our young souls screaming to get out In life if we revel in how imperfect we are Those are the lessons that will take us far As we find our way back to who And from where, came our energy You will find that person you were born to be Please see that you are so much and more Destiny is knocking at your door Go forth through the years And explore who you are For that is the person With whom you can go far Always and forever know Only you can make it so |
